What You Should Know in Case of an Animal Emergency

If you have an animal emergency, you may not be thinking straight so it helps to prepare for one before it happens.

You should be prepared with your vet’s emergency phone number, the number of a local emergency clinic, and how to get to the animal emergency clinic. You should also have the local poison control number if you suspect your pet may have been exposed to a toxic product or substance or may have eaten something.

It helps to know some basic first aid for your pet. Know how to perform basic CPR and how to stop bleeding and apply a pressure wrap. It helps to know how to muzzle your pet in order to keep a pet with an injury from biting you.

You will need to be prepared to pay for animal emergency care. Emergency care can be more expensive than other routine care. Delaying care can put your pet’s life at risk.
